How To Pray for Missionaries

Be informed about your missionaries. The more informed you are about a missionary, the better you can pray for him. The best way you can pray for your missionaries is to do learn about them. How do you do this? Communicate with them. It really encourages a missionary when you let them know that you are interested in their lives and their countries. Become a “safe” person for a missionary. A safe person is a person a missionary can safely share his needs and concerns. He doesn’t have to fear that what he tells you will remain confidential.

Your prayers are like oxygen to missionaries. Think about oxygen…it doesn’t have color, odor, taste, and can’t be seen…yet it is powerful. Without oxygen we would die physically. Without prayer, we become more susceptible to being spiritually malnourished. Prayer and Bible reading are necessary to break sinful bondage and to be released from demonic influence and depression.

Pray against evil forces that would seek to hinder the spread of the gospel.
Pray that the missionary will have open doors and boldness to minister.
Pray that the missionary keeps a spiritual attitude as he ministers on the field.
Pray that the missionary will be able to communicate effectively in other cultures and languages.
Pray for the missionary to have God’s Protection Guidance.
Pray for the missionary’s physical refreshment.

Missionaries need patience and endurance from the Lord. They must deal with many of the same stresses we face…overwhelming workloads, relational conflicts, and financial difficulties. The bad thing about this is that they have to face theses stresses alone… without the fellowship and support of other Christians.
